A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM DR. BERNHOFT:
HOW I PRACTICE MEDICINE AND WHY:
Once upon a time, I was a budding professor of surgery. I did the general surgery residency at UCSF, a fellowship in London in liver and pancreatic surgery, published a couple dozen research papers and joined the clinical faculty of the University of Washington, and enjoyed a thriving Surgical career for some time.
After I got sick from toxic exposure, I was able to get well with the help of Dr Phil Ranheim, who practices Environmental Medicine. Therapy with LDA had cured most of my allergies within 2 years and through scientific detoxification I had my liver working properly. I had been given back excellent health, which I still enjoy.
As a result of my restored health, I retrained in Environmental Medicine, which deals with allergy and the various toxins which cause most disease. According to the CDC, "virtually all chronic illness results from the interaction between genetic vulnerability and environmental exposure."
Toward the end of my training in Environmental Medicine, I attended a conference of the Institute for Functional Medicine, and was hooked. I read their Textbook of Functional Medicine cover to cover, studying their approach, and now practice Functional and Environmental Medicine, with excellent results when people stay with the program.
One word of warning: We don’t have any quick fixes. We deal with underlying causes of disease, and recovery of health takes time. You didn’t get sick overnight and you won’t get well overnight, but we will travel that path with you to diagnose your individual issues and to guide your therapies. In my case, it took me around a year and a half to regain most of my health, and with ongoing maintenance (organic foods, pure water, sauna, occasional chelation) for continued improvement to the optimum health I achieved. Persistence and maintenance is the key.
Everything we do has science behind it, and proven results. We can’t fix everything 100 percent, but we can help most people get a lot better. If that sounds like what you need, give us a call.
SPECIAL NOTICE as of March 2016: Recently it has been suggested on social media that I will provide letters for vaccine exemptions for patients who ask for them.
We will not provide exemption letters outside of the officially approved indications set forth by the Medical Board, based on medical necessity.
